SUBJECT: Bison Fire visible in Lyon County

Yerington, NV – The unified command of the Bison Fire has notified the Lyon County Office of Emergency Management that the Bison Fire in the Pinenut Mountain Range may be visible to residents in Smith Valley and Wellington.

Flames and smoke may be visible on the ridge of the mountain and fire officials are aware of where the fire is spreading. The Emergency Management Coordinator is currently in a briefing with the Bison Fire Unified Command to determine the extent of the fire and the possibility of the fire moving into the Smith Valley/Wellington area.

Lyon County Office of Emergency Management has taken precautionary measures to notify local public safety personnel, dispatch, and support teams in the event the fire begins to move into the area. THERE ARE NO REQUESTS FOR EVACUATION AT THIS TIME. If it is determined that the fire may move towards structures Lyon County Office of Emergency Management and public safety personnel will alert the public.

Lyon County Office of Emergency Management will issue another media release as more information becomes available.
