On August 29, 2022, at 0946 hours, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting located in the 900 block of Mesa Drive in Fernley. The caller advised that a subject had been shot and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

Patrol Deputies responded to the scene and located a subject who had been shot and was subsequently pronounced deceased upon arrival. Information gathered during the preliminary investigation revealed this incident stemmed from a family disturbance and the suspect fled in a vehicle and was reported to be in an adjacent neighborhood. Additional Patrol Deputies responded to the area of Truckee Lane and located the suspect parked on Stock Lane. A perimeter was established and deputies were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. Lyon County Sheriff’s

Office Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. A temporary shelter-in-place order was issued for the neighborhood around Truckee Lane, while deputies took the suspect into custody. Main Street, Truckee Lane and Stock Lane were all closed briefly while deputies worked in the area.

All of the parties involved have been identified and there are no persons outstanding. Detectives are actively investigating. At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released. There is no threat to the public.
