– County Manager Jeff Page sought authorization to hire an appraiser to determine the value of almost 14 acres in Dayton to eventually build a new government center to provide services to the residents of Dayton, Moundhouse and Silver City. The Board of County Commissioners approved the item at their November 5, 2020 meeting.
The property is located east of Fortune Drive in Dayton and is adjacent to the Central Lyon County Fire District station 35. Page remarked that the location is great as it’s right off Highway 50 near a stoplight controlled intersection and not in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
The current Dayton Justice Court is in a historic building and is too small to conduct jury trials now required for domestic battery cases and the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office and Human Services are currently in leased properties.
Lyon County must first determine the value of the property and the County cannot pay any more than fair market value for the property. The County hopes to make an offer by the end of the year and seek County Commission approval to build during next year’s budget process.
