November 4, 2020 the Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the filling of a vacated Community Development Director position. The position has been vacant for the past four years due to budget constraints.

Human Services Director Eric Milavsky presented the item to the Board of Commissioners. He outlined the need for the position and explained that County Manager Jeff Page has been serving in the role for several years. During Page’s performance review the Board of Commissioners expressed a desire for Page to shed himself of duties.

Page explained that the Community Development Director will oversee the operations of the Planning Department, manage the County Engineer/Surveyor and building Inspection contract, code enforcement, Silver Springs Airport, serve as the County liaison to the Northern Nevada Development Authority and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and would be in charge of special projects such as garbage franchise, public lands bill and updates to various plans.

The position has an annual cost estimate of $154,513.00 (Salary + Benefits). The Board supported the request with a 5-0 vote.
