[ARCHIVED] COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DISCUSS FUTURE NEEDED LEGISLATION

The Board of County Commissioners addressed the 2021 Legislative Session on August 20, 2020. The agenda item was to provide staff with direction for the next legislative session. Lyon County is allowed to sponsor one bill during a regular session of the legislature. Four of the five Commissioners had different suggestions.

Commissioner Keller requested that the County file a bill that would limit the ability of development of large acreage parcels by requiring the development to be connected to a municipal water system.

Commissioner Mortensen requested a bill that would address the issue of abandoned vehicles on public lands/property

Commissioner Gray requested a bill that would exempt historical building projects from prevailing wage requirements thus reducing the expense of the projects.

Commissioner Hastings requested a bill that would enhance mental health services in the State of Nevada.

County Manager Jeff Page explained that staff would begin researching these suggestions and bring back proposals for the Board to consider at a special meeting as the Bill Drafts have to be filed with the Legislative Counsel Bureau by September 1.
