Guardianship Services
The Lyon County Public Guardian provides three different
types of guardianship services.
Guardianship Referral
For the Public Guardian to obtain guardianship, a court
must appoint them.
The Guardianship Referral Form should be
filled out and returned to the Public Guardian office.
Guardianship Services
Temporary Guardianship
The Court may grant an emergency order for temporary
guardianship when the Petitioner can show that the proposed ward faces a
substantial and immediate risk of financial loss or physical harm or needs
immediate medical attention; and/or the proposed ward lacks capacity to
respond to the risk of loss or harm or to obtain necessary medical attention.
Guardianship of the Person
A guardian of the person is responsible for the proper
care, comfort and maintenance needs, including food, clothing, shelter,
health care and establishing a place of abode for the ward.
Guardianship of the Estate
A guardian of the estate is responsible to protect,
preserve, manage and dispose of the estate in the ward’s best interest.
